Biography
Jim produced 2006's Hard Scrambled, a feature film starring Kurtwood Smith (That 70's Show), Richard Edson (Do the Right Thing) and Alanna Ubach. The film screened on closing night of the Cinequest Film Festival and won Best Dramatic Feature at the Garden State Film Festival. Jim also wrote and directed a two hour seminar on making indie films as bonus material for the Hard Scrambled DVD release. The Washington Post called it, “A must for would-be filmmakers.”
He also directed and co-produced the feature film March starring Sean Kanan, Cynda Williams (One False Move), Rena Sofer (Traffic) and Michelle Phillips. It played on the opening night of the Lake Arrowhead Film Festival. As a screenwriter, he has had several assignments and options, including a treatment for an animated feature for a Japanese company, a half-hour episode for The Nameless, a live-action internet series and several feature screenplays. He recently optioned the feature screenplay Dysfunction Junction which has won several screenplay contests.
The former Director of Development for the producers of Allison Anders' Gas-Food-Lodging, Jim is ranked as one of the top screenplay consultants and educators in the country and a champion for undiscovered writers. He has taught filmmaking at the Screenwriting Expo in Los Angeles, Siggraph in Boston (on invitation from Disney) and at the Duke City Shootout in New Mexico. He has spoken in front of thousands of writers and has directed more than 40 DVDs on screenwriting.
An avid poker player, Jim has monthly columns in All In and the Southern California Gaming Guide. He is a frequent contributor to Poker Pro Magazine.
